Today we feature a poignant image by George Sheils. Pictured here is the fog-laden Gaelic pitch at Rockmount National School (est. 1865) in County Clare. When conditions are right, students use the pitch to play Gaelic football and hurling. George captured this image for a project he's doing to document the precarious situation faced by many rural schools under threat of closure.
This image pays tribute to the culture and history of gaelic sport. It is a subtle nod to our Irish heritage and a nice reminder of humble roots.
