Editors Choice: Photo of the Day

Photographer: Gareth McCormack

Today we feature a beautiful picture by Gareth McCormack from the summit of Slieve Binnian, County Down. He has captured the scene just before sunset. Gareth explains:

"The summit of Slieve Binnian has been weathered into fascinating granite tors, and provides a superlative vantage point for the rest of the Mourne Mountains. One winter's afternoon I packed my camping gear and made it to the top twenty minutes before sunset. I took a few shots in beautiful light, using a three-stop graduated filter to hold back the sky. By morning the summit was cloaked in mist and I descended without making another picture."

The tones in this image are rich and warm. The panoramic aspect ratio creates the impression you're standing right on the Summit. The granite tors jut out from the earth. This is certainly unique terrain within the Irish landscape. You can browse Gareth's prints here.
