Today we feature a great picture of Galley Head lighthouse in County Cork by Kieran Hayes. When it was first built in 1875, it was the most powerful lighthouse in existence. There is no lighthouse keeper here any more but you can actually stay here since its fully automated! It was opened to the public for rental as part of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland tourism initiative and remains an impressive feature of the landscape. Kieran has captured it here beautifully, he explains:
"A view to Galley Head Lighthouse across the water from Red Strand Beach. I waited many a week for the conditions to be right with a golden sunset, a good offshore wind and the right tide for the wave to break over the submerged little island"
This print is available from €45. You can browse or buy Kieran Haye's prints here.
