 Photographer: Barry O'Carroll

Today we feature a great shot of the Ha'penny bridge in Dublin city centre by Barry O'Carroll. Constructed back in 1816, the cast iron pedestrian Ha'Penny Bridge has been an iconic fixture in Dublin for almost two centuries. It's official name has changed over the years and interestingly its official name remains the 'Liffey Bridge'.

It was first built to allow people cross the Liffey on foot rather than by ferry. It got its nickname Ha'Penny bridge because up until 1919 this was the toll to be paid to cross the bridge. Turnstiles were located on the North and South side of the walkway.

This print is available from €45. You can browse or buy Barry O'Carroll's prints here.
