Today we feature Doolough located on the Murrisk Peninsula in Co. Mayo by Robert and Cathy Ardill. Tragically 600 people died of starvation at Dullough during the Great Famine. They had travelled 15 miles to Delphi Lodge during freezing conditions in search of food. Sadly they were turned away and most died of weakness and starvation on the return leg. Robert comments:
" A view of Doolough in late spring. The area abounds with rhododendron. The slopes of the Sheefry Hills are to the right and Ben Lugmore to the left of the image."
