Today we feature a dramatic shot of Doolough, Co. Mayo by Carsten Krieger. Mountain peaks are veiled by low hanging clouds in this dramatic scene. 600 people tragically died of starvation at Doolough during the Great Famine. They had travelled 15 miles to Delphi Lodge during freezing conditions in search of food. Sadly they were turned away and most died of weakness and starvation on the return journey.
